Dolores "DeeDee" Slayter

February 3, 1928 ~ December 14, 2020

On December 14, 2020, Dolores “DeeDee” Marlene Whiddon Slayter slipped through the ties that bound her to this life to spend eternity in her Heavenly Father’s arms.

Graveside services for Mrs. Slayter will be held Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery with Bro. Brian Wells officiating under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.  Visitation for Mrs. Slayter will begin at 11:00 a.m. and will close at 1:30 p.m. to leave for cemetery.

DeeDee began life February 3, 1928, born to Andrew “P.A.” and Hilda (Leckelt) Whiddon in Iota, LA.  She was the youngest of 8 and adored by all.  She graduated from Jennings High in 1946 and worked at Logea’s Diner where she met Mervin “M.L.” Slayter.  He was the only love in her life.  They married December 22, 1949 and moved to Lake Charles.

DeeDee worked at City Service Refinery as a mail clerk and quickly moved to Traffic Manager.  She was one of the first women to achieve such a position.  Her hard work, tenacity, professionalism, quick wit and integrity paved the way for many women to follow.

A lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Lake Charles, she was the source of love, charity, wisdom, grace and goodness for the next 3 generations of her family.  She was always volunteering at charity events and giving freely of her time and self to help those less fortunate.

She was an active member of several local clubs, City Club, Traffic Club, Pioneer Club, Cowboy Club and many more. She had a deep love for her community and her country.  She was a seasoned traveler and an avid photographer.  Her love for beauty and people is evident in the many albums she kept.

Those left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Laurie Stewart; three granddaughters, Christi Slayter, Angella Sims, and Jamie Leblue; two great granddaughters, Kaci Chambers and Samantha Leblue; one great grandson, Mathieu Leblue; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Greeting her in Heaven will be her husband, M. L. Slayter, her beloved great grandson William “Scotty” Vaughn; three brothers, Clifford, Alfred and Leroy; four sisters, Virginia W. Guyewski, Viola Whiddon, Marie Dosier and Martha Brooks.

Special thanks to the amazing care givers, Dana Clemons, Christian Clemons, Emma Broussard and Darlene Sonnier who dedicated their lives to keep DeeDee at home.  Also Charlotte Dosier, Francis McClellons and Lorianne, Don Williams.
