Yvonne Murray

Yvonne Murray, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and lifelong preacher of the Gospel, passed away on August 25, 2026, just days shy of her 80th birthday. Born on August 28, 1946, in Welsh, LA, Yvonne dedicated her life to her faith and her family, leaving a mark on the hearts of all who knew her.

From a young age, Yvonne helped shape the spiritual lives of countless children as a Sunday School teacher, driven by her desire to lead everyone she encountered toward heaven. She was a strong woman of faith and an unwavering support for her family and friends, standing by her word and inspiring others to do the same.

Yvonne is survived by her daughter, Marcellia (Robert) Hopkins; her sons, JayJay (Stevi) Murray and Jason Murray; her sisters, Thelma (Lionel) Cormier, Debbie Fontenot, Jessie (Thomas) Romero; her brother, Ronald (Sue) Fontenot; and many cherished grandchildren including Parker and Camille Murray, Joel and Justin Hopkins, and Rudy, Summer, and Luke Derouen. She also leaves behind sisters-in-law Shawn, Shirley, and Helen Fontenot and to many nieces and nephews to count.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at Miguez Funeral Home in Jennings, from 8:00 AM until the time of her service at 2:00 PM. Following her service, cremation will be held under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.

Yvonne Murray's spirit will continue to shine brightly through her family and friends, and she will always be remembered for her faith, love, and the warmth she brought into our lives.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, Anderson Fontenot and Allia Demarest Fontenot, her husband Bennie Murray, her son, T-Bennie Murray, her sisters, Ethel (Bobby) Rabey and Louise (Roy) Trahan, and her dear brothers, Bea (Lou) Fontenot, Andrew Fontenot, Jerry Fontenot, and Junior Fontenot.
