With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Wanette Marie Marcantel Martin, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, who departed this life on May 23, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on June 30, 1950, in Jennings, Louisiana, Wanette dedicated her life to education and her family, becoming an inspirational figure to all who knew her.
Wanette earned her Master's degree plus 30 and proudly devoted 53 years of her life as a special education teacher in Jefferson Davis Parish. Her love for teaching was evident in the countless lives she touched, advocating for her students with unwavering compassion and understanding. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, as she served as a devoted member of Eucharistic Adoration for 30 years at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Wanette's commitment to her community and her devotion to God were evident in everything she did.
A doting grandmother, Wanette cherished the time spent with her granddaughter, Marie Martin, creating memories that will forever resonate in their hearts. Known as the "rock and glue" of her family, she provided unwavering support and encouragement, reminding them of the importance of love and unity. She cherished her family, and will never be forgotten.
She will remembered by her loving children, Matthew (Jesus Otero) Martin and Justin (Jennifer) Martin; sister, Valerie (Thomas) Mier; grand daughter, Marie Martin; nieces, Cecilia Guidry and Melanie Mier; and a host of extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lawrence Martin; brother, Matthew Marcantel; and her parents, Wanda and Biney Marcantel.
Visitation will be held on Monday May 26, 2025, in the Miguez Funeral Home Chapel in Jennings, LA, starting at 2:00 p.m. and will continue until 8:00 p.m. A rosary will be led by family members at 6:30 p.m., on Monday evening. Visitation will resume Tuesday May 27, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to the time to depart for church at 9:15.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday May 27, 2025, beginning at 9:45 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Anil Alexander officiating.
She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Our Lady of Seven Dolors Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
Wanette, you will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Your love and warmth will continue to guide us as we carry on your spirit.
