Veronica Ann “Tut” Murrell Trahan, 88, of Carlyss became a citizen of Heaven on Sunday, February 21, 2021 in Lafayette with her four daughters at her side.
Through selfless devotion Tut was a living example of the Sacramental life we are called to from birth. Unselfishly giving of herself without recourse. Exonerating her husband and children in all things embraced in prayer which continued through her entrance into heaven.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Arvel Joseph “Tubby” Trahan; her infant grandson, Cruz Allen Clark; as well as her parents, Emilia (Benoit) and Joseph Walter Murrell.
She leaves to honor her memory her four daughters, Cynthia Darlene Trahan, Gwendolyn Ann Hughes (James David), Angela Gay Clark; and Melinda “Mitzi” Spears (Robert Dwayne); three brothers, George Murrell (Joyce), Calvin Murrrell (Ritha), and James Murrell (Linda Kay); five sisters, Yvonne Trahan (Floyd), Mary Louise LaBove (Sanders), Stella Mae Johnson (William “Billy”), and Frances Elain Helmen. Tut also leaves seven grandchildren, Jonathan (Rhonda) Hughes, Dant (Stephanie) Hughes; Cody (Courtney) Clark, Erin (Zach) Bahnsen, Brittny (Trent) Menard, Markie (Clay) Hebert, and Tyler (Anna) Spears; and nine great grandchildren, Sawyer and Jack Hughes, Theodore and Elliott Hughes, Chandler Clark, Aubrie and Jaxon Bahnsen, Carter, Blayke and Logan Menard, Noah, and Micah and Jonah Hebert.
Tut was born October 25, 1932 in Roberts Cove, LA moving to Carlyss in 1940 with her parents. She graduated from Sulphur High School in 1950. The Covent Tut and Arvel made to each other at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church thru the Sacrament of Marriage in 1951 was honored and completed the time of Arvel’s death.
A devoted housewife and impeccable seamstress, she spent her life in the home not wanting to leave her children. Upon her girl’s graduation she worked for Calcasieu Parish School Board as a bus aide for more than 30 years.
Always reserving a seat at her table for anyone hungry, her food prep was a gift open to all.
Tut was known for her acts of Penance in pulling weeds often at St. Theresa. In her early years she was and active participant in the Alter Society and an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary. Always a contributor to the BonTon Festival and bereavement committee.
Instrumental in affirming her values and commitment to her Catholic faith throughout her family – she was and inspiring living witness to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her smile, fruitcakes, popcorn balls, hugs, and love of family are memories that will sustain us. There are no tears in Heaven, but a joy beyond belief.
Let us honor and remember Tut with joy in a Mass of Christian Burial February 26, 2021 at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Father Luke Krzanowski, M.S. will officiate.
