Thelma Moncla

April 17, 1931 — December 31, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Thelma Grace Duhon Moncla, who departed from this life on December 31, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on April 17, 1931, in Jennings, Louisiana, Thelma lived a life dedicated to her family, faith, and community.

Thelma was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, where she served with great devotion in the Ladies Alter Society. Her dedication extended beyond her church, as she made history as one of the first females to serve on a grand jury in Louisiana, demonstrating her commitment to justice and her community. For many years, Thelma excelled as a secretary for Lake Arthur Flying Service, where her professionalism and warmth left a lasting impact on all those who knew her.

Above all, Thelma cherished her family. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (Tom) Van Geffen; her sons, Stephen (Paula) Moncla and Danny Moncla; her sister, Peggy Bossley; grandchildren, Eric Moncla, Lindsey Moncla Hayes, Collin Moncla, Cory Van Geffen, Thomas Van Geffen, Jr., Nicholas Van Geffen, Beau Van Geffen, Jordan Van Geffen, Celeste Moncla Goodwin and Dan Paul Moncla. Thelma loved her grandchildren deeply, and her legacy of love and inspiration will continue to resonate within them and all who were fortunate enough to have known her.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday January 3, 2026, at Miguez Funeral Home in Lake Arthur, starting at 10:30 AM until the time to depart for mass at 12:45 PM. A rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 11:30 AM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church at 1:00 PM on the same day. She will be laid to rest in St. Anthony Cemetery in Lake Arthur, LA.

Carrying her to her final place of rest will be her grandsons.

Thelma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Milan Moncla, Sr.; her parents, Edward and Elizabeth Duhon; sister, Dorothy Woolley; and her brother, Steadman Duhon.

Thelma Grace Moncla will be remembered not only for her unwavering faith and service but also for the love and inspiration she brought to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
