Richard Cleon Oustalet was born on July 26, 1949, to A.J.M. "Bubba" Oustalet, Jr. and Lena Mae Easley Oustalet in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was baptized on August 21, 1949, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In 1952, Rick moved to Jennings, Louisiana, where he spent his childhood years. While growing up, he also lived with his family in Lake Arthur, Louisiana and Pass Christian, Mississippi.
Rick attended Jennings Elementary School and was a member of the first graduating class of Our Lady Immaculate Elementary School in Jennings. Rick attended Holy Cross High School in New Orleans, and he was a proud graduate of the 1967 Class of St. Stanislaus College Catholic High School in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Rick received his bachelor's degree in 1971 from Louisiana State University (LSU). While attending LSU, Rick graduated from Northwood Automotive Institute in Midland, Michigan. After graduation, Rick returned to his beloved city of Jennings where he worked in the family automotive business for over 54 years. He became the President and CEO of the Bubba Oustalet Automotive Group upon the retirement of his father.
As a young man Rick followed in the footsteps of his parents. His priorities were always his family and the giving of his time and talents to his church and community. He was a devoted and proud father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. If you were blessed to be called Rick's friend, you know that he was always more interested in what was going on in your life than his own.
Rick loved his Catholic faith, and he believed in and supported Catholic education. He served his church by being a member of the Diocese of Lake Charles Finance Board for 24 years. In the aftermath of destructive hurricanes, the Board oversaw the rebuilding of many churches including the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. The Board secured land for the new St. Louis High School and purchased the new diocesan Chancery building. Rick is a Knight of the Order of Malta - a worldwide Catholic Church organization that assists the needy and the poor.
Many community organizations and boards have benefited from Rick's volunteer work. He served as President of the Jeff Davis Chamber of Commerce and Vice President of the Calcasieu Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He served on the Boards of Directors of the Ochsner American Legion Hospital, the Zigler Foundation, and the Lena Mae & Bubba Oustalet Foundation. Rick was especially honored to be a member of the Board of Directors of the LSU Alumni Association for 27 years. During Rick's tenure on the Alumni Board, the Lod Cook Alumni Center and Lod Cook Hotel projects were completed and dedicated.
Rick is survived by his daughter Ursula Oustalet Meaux (Scottie) and son Ric Oustalet, Jr., his grandsons Kristopher Oustalet and Andersen Oustalet, and his granddaughter Addisen Oustalet. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Jeanie McCollister Dubuisson, and his loving friend Anna Graffeo Marchiafava.
