Rayford Joseph Fontenot Sr., age 79, passed away peacefully in his home on June 12, 2026. Born in Jennings, Louisiana, Rayford was a lifelong resident of the Welsh and Roanoke communities, where he built a life defined by faith, hard work, family, and friendship.
Rayford was the beloved son of the late Villa Joseph Fontenot and Thelma May McCown Davis. He dedicated more than 35 years of service to PPG as a welder, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Welsh.
Rayford was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Christine Lopez Fontenot, for 44 years. Together, they built a family that was the center of his life and a great source of pride.
He leaves behind his children: Rayford Joseph "Joey" Fontenot Jr. (Kate), Beau James Fontenot (Taylor), and Tyler John Fontenot (Lauren). He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and a great-grandfather to one great-granddaughter.
He is also survived by his sisters, Agatha Richard, Darlene Miller, Glenda "Bug" Shipp, and Linda LeLeaux, and his brothers, Samuel Fontenot and Lewis "L.T." Davis.Rayford is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Billy Fontenot.
Those who knew Rayford will remember his steady presence, kind heart, dedication to his family, and the values he lived by every day. He never met a stranger and could have a conversation with anyone who crossed his path. His legacy will continue through the family he loved so deeply and the many lives he touched throughout his years.
A public viewing will be held at Miguez Funeral Home, on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 from 11:00 AM until 5:30 PM. A funeral service to honor his life will take place in the chapel at 5:30 PM. The family will be honoring his wishes of cremation following the service.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered prayers, love, and support during this difficult time. Rayford will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
