The family of Miriam Moore Dougherty Kahl announces her passing from this life on January 22, 2026.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Jennings Methodist Church in Jennings, LA, from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held the same day at Jennings Methodist Church at 1:00 PM with Pastor Abby Salazar officiating.

She will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.

Miriam was the third child born to Alfred Milton Moore Sr. and Effie Neal Moore on September 16, 1941. She grew up on a farm with her three siblings and graduated from Oberlin High School in 1959. She attended McNeese State College and graduated in 1963. She went on to teach 1st-3rd grades for over 25 years. Miriam married her college sweetheart, Robert (Bob) Dougherty, in June of 1963, and they raised two children, Karen and Perry, on a farm near Jennings, LA. They were married for over 35 years when, after a long battle, Bob died of cancer.

Miriam eventually met Charles Kahl, and they were married in March of 2002. They lived in Jennings for many years but moved to Baton Rouge in 2019 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. After losing Charles in November of 2021, Miriam lived to the age of 84 and passed away on January 22, 2026. Over her lifetime, her hobbies included cooking and entertaining with all food southern, ceramic painting, being a Cub Scout den leader, square dancing and being Sunday school superintendent at the Jennings Methodist church too many years to count.

She is survived by her children, Karen Dougherty McBride (Alan) of Navarre, FL, and Perry David Dougherty (Julianna) of Baton Rouge, LA; her six grandchildren: William McBride (Haley) of Covington, KY, Laura McBride Rowe (Ryan) of Woodland Park, CO, Allison McBride (engaged to Jacob Waters) of Covington, KY, Aaron Dougherty (Lauren) of Camden, AR, Harrison Dougherty and Jacob Dougherty, both of Ruston, LA; and her younger sister, June Moore Festavan (Carson).

She was preceded by her parents, Alfred and Effie; her two husbands, Bob and Charles; her older sister, Virginia Bowles and her older brother, Milton Moore, Jr., both of Oberlin, LA.
