Joseph Douglas “Mickey” Hoffpauir, of Lake Arthur, LA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mickey was a devoted husband and father and was deeply cherished by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Mickey was born in Goose Creek, TX on January 27, 1935, to parents Thomas Aaron and Rose Benoit Hoffpauir. Mickey grew up in Lake Arthur and began work at Superior Oil Company in Lake Arthur at the age of 17. In 1952, Mickey married Mary Louise Guidry. The two shared four children together until her death in 1988. Throughout his career, Mickey worked all throughout the United States and South America, sacrificing many years away from his family. Mickey was a proud and dedicated father and when at home, he never missed a sporting event or school function for his children.
In 1993, Mickey married Loretta Menard. The two enjoyed traveling, going out to eat, and being around family and friends. Mickey also adored the family pets he shared with Loretta. After 57 years in the oil field, he retired at the age of 74.
Mickey loved to share childhood stories with his family. He enjoyed watching old western movies and sitting on his front porch. All who knew him, loved his sense of humor, which seemed to get better with age. Mickey continued to practice his Catholic faith until his death. He will be deeply missed by all, and his memory will live on in our hearts.
Mickey is survived by his wife of 32 years, Loretta; daughters, Bridget (Jimmy) Thomas of Welsh, Cindy (Sammy) Cooper of Lake Arthur; sons, Doug (Melanie) Hoffpauir of Jennings, Darin (Kathy) Hoffpauir of Lafayette, and a special niece, Jody Hebert Willis. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, along with nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Rose; two brothers, Cleveland and J.C. Hoffpauir; and two sisters, Irene Nunez and Mamie Potier.
