Loretta was born on October 28,1949 in Jennings, Louisiana. Meme, as she was affectionately known, grew up in Mermentau, where she developed a deep love for music and the Lord. She started singing at the young age of 3 in local churches and continued to share her musical talents throughout her life. Meme’s passion for music extended to playing the guitar, and she found joy in singing and playing at various events, from holidays to weddings and funerals. Her voice touched the hearts of many, leaving a lasting impression on all who heard her.
Family was paramount to Meme, and she cherished her role in her grandchildren’s lives. She spent countless hours supporting and bonding with her family, whether it was as a warm-up pitcher for her granddaughter or as a catcher for her grandson. She was a fishing buddy for her godson Mark Spell and loved playing music with her great nephew Christian Spell a fellow guitar player. Her big heart and love for life endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Meme is survived by her daughter, Shelly Trahan; granddaughter, Raechel Jackson (Michelle); grandson, Matthew (Monique) Crochet; sisters, Dwanda “Deanie” (Austin) Spell and Melinda “Mendy” (Willie) Clark; great-granddaughters, Addison, Emersyn, Austyn, Alexis, and Aubrey; godchildren, Angie Leger, Mark Spell, Loretta LeBlanc; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Meme found solace and community in her place of worship at Victory Gospel Lighthouse. She loved the Lord with her whole heart and was evident in the life she led. Meme showed grace and strength with an unwavering faith throughout her illness and will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love of God, family, and music will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
The family would like to thank Hope Hospice and especially Jenna Miller. They would also like to thank all of the family that cared for “Meme” in her final days and hours and the endless compassion and love shown to her
