Letha Abshire

October 22, 1939 — December 20, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Letha Mae Abshire, who left us peacefully on December 20, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on October 22, 1939, in Jennings, Louisiana, Letha spent most of her life in Lake Arthur, LA, before relocating to Lake Charles to be closer to her beloved family.

Letha was a devoted wife to her husband, Bobby Abshire, and a loving mother to her three children: Twynia Dugas, Kecisa (Calvin) Thibodeaux, and Claude (Traci) Dickerson; and her step children, Keith (Pam) Abshire, Cheryl (Tony) Doucet and Kay Guidry. She cherished her role as a grandmother to Kurt Dugas, Jacob (Katy) Fruge , Megan Dickerson, Beth (Brennon) Brignac, Ryan (Baylee) Dickerson; her step grandchildren, Destiny (Travis) MaGee, Delisha (Allan) Mayberry, Cole (Jenny) Stevens, and Cord (Amanda) Stevens; her great grandchildren, Jeb, Cooper, Gray, and Stone; nine step great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, all who brought her immense joy.

Letha spent many fulfilling years serving as a school bus driver for the Jefferson Davis Parish School System, where she nurtured and cared for countless children, a testament to her loving nature and dedication to the community. Outside of work, Letha found great joy in cooking for her family, whether it was for an intimate gathering or a celebration with many loved ones. Her home was always open, filled with laughter, stories, and delicious meals that created lasting memories. She enjoyed lively trips to the casino and treasured the moments spent with family and friends, encapsulating a spirit of fun and warmth. You can also find her enjoying a good game of Pokeno as well. The love she shared with those around her will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

A public viewing will be held at Miguez Funeral Home in Lake Arthur, LA, starting at 9:30 AM on Tuesday December 23, 2025. Letha's Funeral Service will take place on the same day, December 23, 2025, at 3:30 PM, with Father Keith Pellerin officiating. A Rosary will be held at Miguez Funeral Home at 2:30 PM.

She will be laid to rest in St. Anthony Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.

In this time of sorrow, let us celebrate Letha Mae Abshire's life and the love she brought into the world. She will forever remain in our hearts.

Letha was preceded in death by her parents, Everette Lyons and Alice LeBlanc Lyons; a son-in-law, Curtis Dugas; and brothers, Bufford LeBlanc and Sidney Lyons.
