It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kenneth Joseph Thibodeaux, who left us peacefully on October 15, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on August 4, 1936, in Gueydan, Louisiana, Kenneth spent his life rooted in the values of family, hard work, and community.
After graduating high school, Kenneth married his high school sweetheart, Bertha and settled in Klondike for a brief period before moving to Thornwell. It was there that he poured his heart and soul into farming, becoming a dedicated rice and cattle farmer. Kenneth was also known for his adventurous spirit, enjoying duck and deer hunting and exploring the great outdoors.
A proud member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Kenneth actively participated in the Knights of Columbus and was a founding member of the Thornwell Fire Department, which later expanded into District 4 Fire Department. For over 50 years, he served as a fireman and an influential board member, always ready to lend a helping hand to his community.
Traveling in their motor home, Kenneth, Bertha, and their camping family visited 48 states, documenting their adventures in a travel log that reflected his love for exploring new places. He cherished his time spent camping and was well-known for his homemade wine, each bottle a labor of love that he happily shared with family and friends. His famous Chow Chow-and those hot peppers he made-were just as legendary, bringing smiles to those who tasted them.
Kenneth leaves behind his beloved daughter, Alice (Rhett) Guidry; sons, Greg (loving late wife Angie) Thibodeaux, Phil (Tammy) Thibodeaux, Jules (Michelle) Thibodeaux, Kenny (Kim) Thibodeaux; grandchildren, Tasha Thibodeaux, Dustin Thibodeaux, Kristin Thibodeaux, Korey Dugas, Camy Thibodeaux, Philip Thibodeaux, Kendalyn Hebert, Bryce Thibodeaux, Kyle Thibodeaux, and Amy Dartez. Kenneth was affectionately known as Poppa to his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, that he loved and cherished deeply; and his sister, Cephronia Prather.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at Miguez Funeral Home in Lake Arthur, LA. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM on the same day. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, from 8:00 AM until the time to depart for Mass at 9:45 AM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 10:30 AM with Father Jay Alexius officiating his service. He will be laid to rest in St. Anthony Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
