It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Karen Kay Worthington, who left us on May 16, 2026, just a day after her 73rd birthday. Born on May 15, 1953, in Jennings, Louisiana, Karen was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend to all who knew her.
Marrying the love of her life, Karen and Mike spent an incredible 53 years together, creating a life full of laughter, love, and horses. An avid horse trainer and the owner of Worthington Performance Horses, she dedicated her life to training horses and sharing her passion for riding with others. Karen never met a stranger; her warm heart and welcoming spirit touched everyone who crossed her path.
Karen was a devoted Christian and lived her life with grace and passion, especially in the barrel racing community. She passed doing what she loved most barrel racing and left behind a legacy of joy and inspiration.
Karen is survived by her loving husband, Mike Worthington, and her daughters; Misti Klay Worthington, and Ashli (Jason) Wilkinson. She is also remembered by her brother, Kevin (Angie) Fontenot, her sister, Mindy (Glen) Hetzel, and her cherished grandchildren; Clint (Taylor) Amos, Dylan (Emily) Amos, Judd (Bridget) Wilkinson, Miah Klay, Kylee Klay, and Colt Wilkinson. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Josephine and Scarlett Wilkinson, and Walker, Westley, Easton, and Eloise Amos.
Cremation has been entrusted under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home. A Memorial service is being planned for a later date.
She will be dearly missed but forever remembered in our hearts, especially in the barrel racing world she adored. Rest easy, Karen. Your love and light will shine on through all of us.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents; Elmer Fontenot and Johnnye Rae Hart Fontenot, and her loving sister, Sharon Faye Martin.
