A Mass of Christian Burial for John Eddie Guinn, Sr., 71, of Jennings will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church with Rev. Keith Pellerin officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Miguez Funeral Home chapel and close at 9:00 p.m. A Cursillo Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume Friday, June 21, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. and close at 12:15 p.m. for the procession to church.
Mr. Guinn was born on December 27th, 1952, in Jennings to the late Loyd and Marcelette Guinn. He passed away on June 17, 2024, surrounded by his family. He attended Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic School and graduated from Jennings High School in 1971.
After high school, Johnny worked on the Kansas City Railroad. He worked in various construction jobs and started Guinn Dirt Service. In December of 1977, Johnny married his loving wife Rosalie and together they had 10 children, 22 grandchildren, and one great grandchild in their 46 years of marriage.
Johnny graduated from Missouri Auction School in 1984. For many years, he served as chairman of the Louisiana Auctioneers Licensing Board. He used his auctioneering skills not only as a career, but also to contribute to charitable causes in our community and fundraising events.
Johnny served our community as a police juror for District 5 from 1999-2007. He also served in the Louisiana House of Representatives as the representative for District 37 for 12 years. Johnny received numerous recognitions for his legislative work. He worked especially hard for legislation on behalf of families.
Johnny was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church. He was a warm and loving father, grandfather, and friend to so many. He enjoyed auctioning, being outdoors, operating heavy equipment, dancing, good music, good food, and being surrounded by his family and friends. He enjoyed playing guitar and harmonica as well as singing with his family. He will be remembered for always bringing a smile and a laugh to everyone he encountered.
Johnny is survived by his beloved wife, Rosalie Conner Guinn, his 10 children- John (Kym) Guinn, Michael (Kallie) Guinn, Grant (Jennifer) Guinn, Valerie (Aaron) Gillespie, Elizabeth (William) Precht, Daniel (Meagan) Guinn, Rosalie (John) Ange, Catherine (Geoffrey) Lafargue, Conner Guinn, and Juliana Guinn (Fiancée- Thomas Pousson). Survivors also include his 22 grandchildren who adored their “Poppa Johnny”; his four brothers Loyd George (Sandra) Guinn Jr., Andrew Lee (Kelly) Guinn, James Paul (Laurie) Guinn, and Timothy Jude (Renate) Guinn; sisters-in-law, Pam Guinn and Valerie Jean Conner (Stan Makielski). He will be lovingly remembered by his many cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Loyd and Marcelette Guinn and his brother Peter Guinn.
