It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James Joseph Hargrave, who left us on July 8, 2025, at the age of 75, in his beloved hometown of Lake Arthur, Louisiana. Born on July 6, 1950, James was a dedicated husband, father, brother, and friend, leaving a legacy of love and resilience that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
James served his country with unwavering courage in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he proudly earned three Purple Hearts. He served alongside his brother Rayford, demonstrating a commitment to his country that inspired everyone around him. After his service, he became a skilled welder in the oil and gas industry, where he applied the same dedication and tenacity that defined his life. A man of simple pleasures, James found joy in fishing and nurturing his garden. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his deep affection for his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Connie Hargrave; his sons, Zachary Radeke and Phillip "Bubba" (Mandy) Ardoin; his daughters, Theresa (Todd) Abshire and Melinda (Brandon) Atchison; as well as his cherished siblings, Jackie (Cleve) Vincent, Roberta Suire, Genieva Duhon, Dickie (Susan) Hargrave, and Alcide (Brandi) Hargrave; his grandchildren, Colleen Gotte, McKenzie Abshire, Paisley Smith, Riley Atchison, Roman Ardoin, Kailyn Crochet, Kaisha Radeke and Kaiclyn Broussard; and his great grandchildren, Aria, Emmerie, Linden, Harlen, Grant and Liam.
The family of Jimmy has chosen to honor his wishes of cremation, under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Miguez Funeral Home in Lake Arthur, on Sunday July 13, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM, providing an opportunity for loved ones to share stories, laughter, and tears in remembrance of the man who touched so many lives.
Jimmy's life will be celebrated with a graveside service at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery on July 14, 2025, at 10:00 am, with military honors, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and his service to our nation.
His spirit will forever remain alive in the hearts of his family and friends, reminding us of the dedication he exhibited both as a soldier and a loving family man. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Clara Breaux and Queling Hargrave; daughter, Christy Hargrave; and his brother, Rayford Hargrave.
