Grace Dalton

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday November 22, 2025, at Miguez Funeral Home in Jennings, LA, from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Following her visitation, the family has chosen to honor her wishes of cremation.

On Friday December 5, 2025, at 1:30 PM, the family invites everyone to attend Grace's funeral service with Military honors, at he Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery.

Grace Marie Dalton was born to Henry Lognion, Sr. and Altia Comeaux Lognion on July 31, 1933. She was the 4th child after Henry Lognion Jr, Wilson James Lognion and Dorothy Jane Lognion Banks.

She was born in Lacassine, Louisiana of the Catholic Faith. She was 92 at the time of her Passing. Grace had lived In Jennings since 1983. She passed away while residing at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings, Louisiana.

She attended school in Welsh and Lacassine. Grace joined the United States Marine Corps during her senior year at the age of 17 and after altering her Birth Certificate she joined the Marines on July 4, 1951, during the Korean Conflict.

After boot camp and specialized training, Grace was assigned to Camp Pendleton, California as Support Head Quarters Clerk and earned Sergeant stripes during her Camp Pendleton tour. The Corp selected Grace to be a recruiter for the Marines and even offered her Technical Sergeant stripes to accept the recruiter position. After much consideration, Grace declined the offer and elected to be discharged from the military on July 18, 1954.

She eventually became a member of The American Legion, Lake Arthur Post 403 where she served in the Officer positions of Commander, Second Vice Commander, Adjutant, Finance Officer and Chaplain. When Post 403 was dissolved, Grace joined the Legion's, James O. Hall, Post 19 where she served as Post Chaplain.

Moreover, Grace is a proud member of Post 19's Honor Guard. She has also served as The American Legion, Department of Louisiana, Sergeant-At-Arms; 7th District Color Bearer, and the 7th District, Area 'B' Commander. She also gave her time and talents as Post 19 Representative to the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home Ancillary Committee. Grace is a 42-year PUFL (Paid Up for Life) American Legion member.

Grace remained a United States Marine until July 31, 1954, with the Rank of Sergeant. After Grace was discharged from the Marines she returned to Welsh, La. She went to work for Allied Finance Company in Lake Charles where she met her future husband, Carter Lee Dalton. They were married April 1, 1955, and lived in Lake Charles, Louisiana. On December 1, 1956, they were blessed with the birth of their only child Carter Lee Dalton II. Then in 1958, they were transferred by Allied Finance to Dallas, Texas.

Both Grace and Carter, her husband, left Allied Finance in 1962 and started a family business of their own where they owned drive-in grocery stores in Irving, Texas and a supermarket in Dallas, Texas. They also started their first Bar B Q business in downtown Dallas.

Then in 1972 the marriage was dissolved, and it was at this time when Grace and Lee returned to Welsh, Louisiana. In 1991 Grace moved to Jennings, Louisiana where she remained until her death. Grace worked for Wizard Fast Stop stores in the Lake Charles and Sulfur Louisiana area as a manager. Then Grace went to work for the Social Security Administration until 1984 when she was medically retired.

Grace's favorite pastime was dancing, which was a regular event at several Post throughout the area. Grace also loved her dogs, Sassie and Nevaeh. Before Lee joined the military Grace remained very active in community programs for Welsh High School.

Grace is survived by her son, Carter Lee Dalton II of Round Rock, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Nohemi Hernandez Dalton "Mimi"; her two grandsons, Christopher Lee Dalton and Jeremy Lee Dalton of Florida; her niece, Denis Marie Banks of Maryland; her nephew, Dennis Lee Banks of Rhode Island; her step grandson, Carlos Hernandez of Texas; her adoptive families, Tony, Racheal and Korey Holloway of Jennings; and Sam and Rebecca Doucet of Jennings.

Grace was preceded in death by her father - Henry Lognion Sr. and her mother Altia Comeaux Lognion Marcantel; her stepfather, Sidney Marcantel; her two brothers, Henry Lognion Jr. and Wilson Lognion; her sister, Dorthy Jane Lognion Banks; her nephew, Gary Thomas Banks; her brother-in law, Albert Banks; her ex-husband, Carter Lee Dalton; her dogs, Sassie and Nevaeh.

Grace was very active as a volunteer throughout her life. After Grace left the Marines, she still considered herself a Marine. On occasion Grace would remind Lee to include Sir or Ma'am when speaking to an adult. Once a Marine, always a Marine.

Grace was also very active in youth activities with Lee. She was active in school PTA's and the YMCA. She volunteered and organized the Food Concessions Booth for the YMCA Youth Football Program and the Irving, Texas Soccer League. Grace accepted a coaching position once for one of Lee's soccer teams when no other parent was able to fulfill the role. Grace served as Director for the Irving Lanes Bowling Youth Bowling League for 3 years in Irving, Texas. When Grace and Lee returned to Welsh Grace assisted in events for pep rallies at Welsh High School.

Grace was a volunteer at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home for many years and told Lee she was moving to the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home when it was her time. Grace moved into the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in January 2024 and remained there until she Passed on November 16, 2025.
