It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Etta Rose "Rosie" Richards, who left us peacefully on May 8, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on October 22, 1940, in Welsh, Louisiana, Rosie spent her life in Jennings, where she developed deep roots in the community. She was a proud graduate of Jennings High School and dedicated over 30 years to teaching for the Jefferson Davis Parish School Board, where she touched the lives of countless students.
A passionate cook, Rosie found joy in her kitchen, whipping up meals that brought her family together. Outside of cooking, she cherished quiet moments in nature, birdwatching, crocheting, and knitting. She was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church where she served as a Catholic Daughter. Her vibrant spirit and infectious laughter will be missed dearly by all who knew her. Rosie's life was rich with love and joy, especially from her family.
She is survived by her loving children: Kim Richards, Conley "Buster" Richards III, Mark Richards, Kathy (Lewis) Smith, and Mack Meade. Etta also leaves behind her beloved sister; Lou Ann Carty; her sister-in-law, Joyce Arceneaux; an impressive ten grandchildren, whom she delighted in spoiling; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rosie's life on Monday May 18, 2026, at Miguez Funeral Home with a gathering of family and friends from 1:30 PM until 4:30 PM. At 4:30 PM, a rosary will be led by the Catholic Daughters Society, leading into the funeral service at 5:00 PM in the funeral home chapel.
Rosie will forever hold a special place in our hearts, and we look forward to sharing stories and memories as we say goodbye to a remarkable woman.
Rosie was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Conley Richards, Jr.; her siblings, Linda Romero and Irving Arceneaux; her son, Irvin Ray Meade, Sr.; and her parents, Paul and Inez Arceneaux.
