Dwayne "Durwood" Lewis, 69, of Jennings, died peacefully in his home surrounded by family members on Thursday, July 23, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer.

Visitation will be held on Sunday July 26, 2026, at Miguez Funeral Home in Jennings beginning at 3:00 PM and closing at 8:00 PM. A Cursillo Rosary will be held on Sunday evening at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume Monday July 27, 2026, from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jennings, LA, on Monday July 27, 2026, at 10:00 AM, with Fr. Anil Alexander officiating. Entombment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.

Dwayne was born on May 28, 1957, in Jennings as the eldest son of Jimmy Lewis and Eunice Langley Lewis of Welsh. A 1975 graduate of Welsh High School, he called Jeff Davis Parish home for his entire life. A devout Catholic, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 9110, the St. Joseph Prayer Group, and the Cursillo movement and its Ultreya events. In September 2025, he was awarded the Devoted Service Medal by Bishop Glen John Provost of the Diocese of Lake Charles as part of the Bestowal of Diocesan Honors Vespers. He was also involved with the Jaycees and the Greater Jennings Chamber of Commerce.

Dwayne is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathy Hardy Lewis, of Jennings; his son, Scott Lewis of Salt Lake City, Utah; his daughter Ashley Lewis and her husband, Rick Webre, both of Jennings; his mother, Eunice Lewis of Welsh; his sister, Linda Lewis Broussard of Sulphur; his brothers, Doug (Becky) Lewis of Canton, Ga., and Justin (Kristi) Lewis, of Lake Charles; and his four grandchildren, Aidan Savant, Corbin Webre, Ethan Webre and Sidney Webre, all of Jennings.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Lewis, of Welsh.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staffs of Jeff Davis MD HomeCare and Lamm Family Care hospice of Crowley. Their care and generosity will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that mourners consider making donations in his name to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Jennings.
