Dwane Edward Luttrull was a proud United States Air Force veteran, a devoted father of four, and a man who believed that some things in life were worth doing right, especially keeping a car spotless and a yard perfectly manicured.
Born in Evansville, Indiana, Dwane moved to California as a teenager, where he spent his formative years. An athlete in his younger days, he played football as a tight end before attending college. But his life would take a different direction when he made the decision to leave college and enlist in the United States Air Force.
Dwane proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life that would forever be part of his story.
While his military service was an important part of who he was, his family knew him in a different way.
They knew the dad who loved a good board game and spent countless hours playing with his four children as they grew up. They knew the man who took pride in having the cleanest car and the neatest yard around. If something was worth taking care of, Dwane believed it was worth taking care of properly.
He had a special place in his heart for dogs, finding joy in the companionship and unconditional love they offered.
And then there was his sweet tooth.
Dwane loved his sweets, even when he knew he probably shouldn't have them. Some pleasures in life were simply too good to pass up, and dessert was apparently one of them.
In his later years, Dwane received care at the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jennings, Louisiana. His family is deeply grateful to the dedicated staff who cared for him with kindness, dignity, patience, and genuine affection. They became much more than caregivers. They became an extension of his family.
Dwane's life was one of service, family, pride, and the simple pleasures that made him who he was.
He is survived by his daughters, Dana (James) Whittington and Shonda (Gene) Veronie; son, Glenn Luttrull; grandchildren, Rachael Mitchell, Leonardo Veronie, Massimo Veronie, Emily Mae Whittington, Jesse Luttrull, Matthew Luttrull, Hadrian, Keon, and Trajan; his great-grandchild, Athen Luttrull; and his brothers, Larry and Darrell Luttrull.
Family and Friends are invited to celebrate his remarkable life at Miguez Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 9:00 AM until 9:45 AM. He will be laid to rest in Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors, under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
Dwane was preceded in death by his parents, Warren Luttrull and Clara Luttrull, his son Jerry Wayne Luttrull, and his first wife Ellie Sue Steadman.
Although he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in his children, his family, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Thank you for your service, Daddy, and thank you for the memories.
Rest easy, Airman. Your duty is done.
