Dewey "Nick" Carroll Hunt, a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in Welsh, LA on May 2, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on October 15, 1936, in Welsh, Nick spent his life dedicated to family, his work in the oil and gas industry, and everything he loved, especially LSU sports and preaching.
Nick enjoyed a fulfilling career as a superintendent in the oil and gas industry, where he applied the same passion and dedication he was known for in his personal life. An avid reader and a proud graduate of the Tabernacle Baptist Bible Institute (where he was honored as the valedictorian of his class), Nick shared his faith as he conducted French church services, spreading joy and knowledge to his community.
Outside of work and church, Nick found pleasure in tending to his yard, working in his shop, and hosting gatherings in his outdoor kitchen, where many fond memories were made over good food and laughter.
He was married to the late Mary Ellen Leger Hunt for 38 years and later to Faye Carmel Olmstead for 17 years, cherishing every moment with those he loved. Nick leaves behind a strong legacy through his sons: Bryan (Nancy) Hunt, Bobby (Paula) Hunt, Kevin (Marlo) Hunt, and Tommy (Yvette) Hunt, as well as his grandchildren; Mandi (Chris) Bender, Nickolas Hunt, Wade (Alisha) Hunt, Andrew Hunt, Seth (Carley) Hunt, MaKenzie (Taylor) Talbert, Tori Bellard, Cody (Patricia) Hunt; and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Shelton "Booster" Hunt.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM, in the Miguez Funeral Home Chapel in Jennings. A service will be held at 1:00 PM with his grandson Seth Hunt officiating. Nick will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
He will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered for his spirit, laughter, and the kindness he shared with everyone around him. Rest easy, Nick; you have left an indelible mark on all hearts.
Dewey "Nick" was preceded in death by his parents, Vivian Hunt, Charlie Hunt, and four sibilings Harold Hunt, Jean Miller, Eva Ann Smith, and Lee Allen Hunt.
