The family of Mr. David James Medus, 73, of Lafayette announces the passing of their beloved brother on Wednesday, February 28, 2024.
Mr. Medus was born on January 2, 1951, to parents, Allen James, and Louise Elonide Caldwell Medus. David had many skills and talents that he shared with his family and friends including interior landscaping, floral design and professional singing. He was a superb orchid grower and received numerous American Orchid Society awards. He was also the past president of the Calcasieu Orchid Society and when he was well, he traveled from Houston, TX to Gauthier, MS to set up displays at orchid shows. He was a friend, a mentor, and a caregiver to so many people. David was Christian and he worshiped through singing. In Lake Charles, he sang in both the choirs of the First United Methodist Church and Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. In Jennings he served as Choir Director for Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church adding a special beauty to the services. He had a fond affection to the simple monastic way of life and frequented St. Joseph’s Benedictine Abbey where he enjoyed solace in the presence of his Savior and Lord. “Give rest, O Christ, to you servant David with your saints, where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting.”
He leaves behind to cherish his memory two sisters, Kathryn Sullivan of Baton Rouge, and Julie LeJeune of Lafayette and two brothers, Carl (Evie) Medus of Duluth, GA, and Paul Medus of Lafayette; niece Chassity Medus Leger and her children, Asa and Abigail Leger; niece, Alison LeJeune Trudell and her children, Kyle, Chloe, Emma and Evan Trudell; niece Lindsey Miller Junca, her husband, Harold J. Junca III and their children, Mackenzie Lindsey Baer, Katie-Lynn Miller Junca and Jordyn Marie Junca; niece, Kristina Miller Harris, husband Marc Anthony Harris and their children, Elliott Joelle and Parker Leigh Harris; nephew, Marcus LeJeune, his wife, Eva and their children Scarlett, Sterling and Sawyer LeJeune.
