Connie Lucille Hymel Boesch, 76, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on January 29, 2022, after a brave battle with a lengthy illness.  She was born in Jennings, Louisiana to Herbert and Jacqueline Hymel on March 3, 1945.  She is predeceased by her loving husband of 48 years, Thomas Dean Boesch.

Every family is a vibrant fabric, woven together of individuals, each having a special place and purpose that comes to life as years pass.  Connie was the third in a family of four girls.  In childhood, she was the family ‘tomboy,’ commonly seen in her signature sleeveless shirts and pedal pushers, riding her bike everywhere, her beautiful blonde curls tied up in a ponytail.  She had a serious and dependable nature, so it followed suit that she was a favorite babysitter for family friends and was quite the entrepreneur who saved and planned for her future.

Always inquisitive she was only four years old when she asked her pregnant mommy if she ate a grain of rice, could she be the first to see her new sibling before it was born.  Her curiosity and caring nature led Connie into a nursing career after graduating as an RN with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.  Connie worked for the Houston Health Department early in her career, delivering home health and education to new moms in poverty-stricken neighborhoods.  Later she worked over 30 years for Baylor College of Medicine and spent most of her career as Clinical Nurse to Dr. Dov Kadmon at Scott Department of Urology and as Nurse Coordinator of the Baylor IVF Program.

But titles don’t tell the whole story.  Connie’s co-workers called her a nurses’ nurse.  She excelled in relating to her patients, delivering whatever care and education was required to put them at ease as they faced difficult medical procedures.  It was Connie who developed her own maps of the maze of hallways and parking garages that were constantly undergoing construction in one of the world’s largest medical centers.  And it was Connie who walked anxious patients to introduce them to the personnel at check-in desks before surgeries.  Most importantly, she listened and saw that patient questions were answered, and nerves were calmed.  Her patients were a loyal bunch, often sending gifts and writing notes of thanks.  Down the road, many long-time patients encouraged her through her own treatments as she faced trying times herself.

As a young girl before the days of cable TV and cell phones, the family often entertained visitors on Sunday afternoons after church.  Saturdays were reserved for cleaning and baking and Connie was always in the kitchen. Her meticulous nature and attention to detail, plus a healthy sweet tooth, made her a natural there.  She honed her baking skills, and everything was delicious, but she specialized in pies and candy!  She had the magic touch!  Those skills carried on throughout her life.  Happy was the recipient of her sweets!

A family is a circle of love and strength. Connie and husband Tom were blessed with two children, Jeb and Jennifer and two precious grandchildren, Makayla and Bobby who were the light of her life.  Her mother, Jackie Hymel and late father, Herbert Hymel and sisters, Madeline Stirling and her late husband, Gardner; Dianne Sparks and her husband, Tom; and Christy Burton and her husband, Richard and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren make up a large family left to grieve the loss of a beloved daughter, sister and aunt.

Connie is also survived by Tom’s devoted family, Fran Boesch and late husband, Don; Barbara Benold and her late husband Mike; nephews, Neil Benold and Robert Boesch; and nieces Deborah Boesch Smith and Amanda Evans and their children.  She is predeceased by her father-in-law, Thomas Boesch and mother-in-law, Winnie P. Boesch.

A life well lived is full of blessings from God. Connie was cared for by devoted professionals, Cardiologist, Mohammed Attar, MD; Internist and Houston Methodist Attending Physician, Austin O. Williams, Sr., MD and Radiation Oncologist, Bin S. Teh, MD. Her family is deeply grateful for all.
