Charlie Velton Hines, lovingly known as Daddy, PawPaw, and Cher, was gifted to us on August 12, 1943, and returned to God on December 23, 2025.
Charlie was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mildred "Ruby" Hines, on December 21, 1963. Together, they shared 62 years of marriage, building a life rooted in faith, love, and family.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Charlie was a family man through and through. Quiet in nature but steady in strength, he showed his love through hard work, loyalty, and consistency. Charlie spent his entire career working in the oilfield, proudly providing for his family until his well-earned retirement. Outside of work, he enjoyed hunting, shrimping, listening to old gospel music, and watching westerns. Family often joked that, although steady, he could be a bit slow, which only added to his charm.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Mildred; children, including Samantha Fruge of Crowley, Louisiana; David Hines of Jennings, Louisiana, Carolyn Hines of Jennings, Louisiana, Keith Hines of Jennings, Louisiana, and Stacie Hines of Jennings, Louisiana; he also leaves behind nine grandchildren: Charles Fruge, Renee Fruge, Brittany Boudreaux, Alexia Chiasson, Cammy Granger, Lainey Nicholas, Ja'Stacin McDowell, Amyah Hines, and McKynna Hines; and ten great-grandchildren: Joelee, Joseph, Evelyn, Adeline, Bastien, Callie, Mila, Haven, Emeri, and baby boy Hines-Chaisson on the way; and his two sisters, Dolores and Geraldine.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Jenus Hines and Evia Duhon Hines, and his brother, Jerry Hines.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Monday December 29, 2025, at Miguez Funeral Home in Jennings, LA, beginning at 10:00 AM and will continue until the time of service at 1:00 PM.
He will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his unwavering devotion to his family, and the simple, steady love he gave to those around him. His legacy lives on through the generations who will forever carry his name, his values, and his love in their hearts.
