It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bobby Vasseur, a beloved son, father, friend, and Fire Chief, who left us on March 24, 2026, at the age of 62. Born on February 18, 1964, in Rayne, Louisiana, Bobby made his home in Jennings, Louisiana, where he dedicated his life to the noble profession of firefighting and rescue.
Bobby was a devoted father and grandfather. He was happiest in the woods at his camp in Sikes surrounded by his family and friends making memories, teaching the value of patience, hunting, and the outdoors. But his home was the center of many gatherings filled with laughter, tall tales of the hunt, and the warmth of his love.
Bobby dedicated his professional life to serving others through a distinguished career in firefighting. Beginning his service with the Jennings Fire Department in 1979, he quickly earned a reputation for courage, reliability, and unwavering commitment to the community. Over the course of his career, he received numerous accommodations and obtained countless certifications not just within the department but also throughout the state. He rose to the rank of Fire Chief, demonstrating strong leadership both on and off the scene. After 43 years of honorable service, Bobby retired in 2022, leaving behind a lasting legacy within the department and the community he so faithfully protected.
Bobby's love of pool took him to many tournaments and different types of leagues. Bobby was president of the Bayou Cajun Amateur Pool League and Captain of his team Smoking Cues where he and his team went to State Tournaments and Vegas. He joined the APA Pool League in 2022 and quickly made many friends. He excelled in both APA 8 Ball and 9 Ball with many accomplishments earning Sportsmanship, MVP, Rackless and Win Percentage. As Captain of the Bayou Cajun Misfits, he took his team to first place several times and consistently to upper-level tournaments. From 2023-25 his accomplishments surpassed with Vegas qualifiers and the Team Captain's Championship in Vegas. His kindness, camaraderie, and enthusiasm for pool will be remembered and sadly missed throughout the pool world.
Bobby is survived by his three sons, Chris (Tiffany) Landry, Wilbert "Junior" (Tina) Landry, and Jorge Campos, nine grandchildren, Ben (Bethany) Martin, AbbyGail Landry, Calum Landry, Devin Landry, Jace Landry, Kolton Landry, Cheyenne Benoit, Aden Campos and Jarrett Campos, four great grandchildren, Braxton Landry, Adalynn Istre, Iris Campos, and Michael Vincent, as well as his cherished family members: his brother, Ashley Navarre, aunt DeDe (Robbie) Collins, uncle Sonny Smith, and aunt Evelyn (Owen) Oquin. They will forever carry his memory within them as they remember the laughter and love he shared.
Bobby was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Pamela Vasseur, his father Emar (EJ) Vasseur, his mother, Rena Smith and his grandson, Christopher "Neal" Landry.
In honor of Bobby's life, there will be a public viewing at Miguez Funeral Home on March 27, 2026, starting at 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM. All who knew and loved Bobby are welcome to join us in celebrating his remarkable journey. After the service, he will be cremated, and we will hold a moment of reflection at Jennings, Louisiana, as we say our final goodbyes.
Bobby Vasseur will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the countless lives he impacted throughout his years. We invite everyone who knew him to come together to honor this incredible man.
